Hearty Harvests in Iowa: A Photovoice Project (HHIPP)

Welcome to the Hearty Harvests in Iowa: A Photovoice Project, a series of visual stories about the lives of farmers and their experiences with agriculture in Iowa. Through a process called photovoice, farmers in Eastern Iowa were offered a platform to share their passion, perspective, and visions for farming.
The goal of the photovoice process is to support the self-empowerment of participants through storytelling. The process encourages them to express their experiences, connect with others in the community, and encourage discussion and action related to the issues important to them.

While not everyone has experienced the joys and challenges of farming, the emotions and motivations behind the highlighted individuals’ chosen livelihood will surely resonate with anyone with a passion.
Ultimately, this project celebrates the dedication and resilience of farmers everywhere and reminds us of the critical role they and their labors of love hold in our communities.
As you journey through this series, consider the question asked of participating farmers: What do you wish others knew about your relationship to land, food, & community?
Check out what the following farmers had to say…
