The Full Moon will reach peak illumination on Monday, October 6, 2025 at 11:47 P.M. EST.
The moon's phases for October's Full Moon are:
🌓 First Quarter: September 29.
🌕 Full Moon: October 6.
🌗 Last Quarter: October 13.
🌑 New Moon: October 21.

The Full Moon will appear incredibly bright, large, and full as it rises very near sunset between October 5 and October 7.

As the first of three Supermoons this year, October's Full Moon has many monikers attached to it.

A Supermoon occurs when the Moon is at perigee (its closest point to Earth) meaning it will appear noticeably larger and brighter than a typical Full Moon.

Typically known as the annual Hunter Moon, this lunation will also go by the Harvest Moon since it is the Full Moon that falls nearest to the Autumnal Equinox in the Northern Hemisphere.

Unlike other Full Moons, the Harvest Moon isn't tied to a particular month, but rather to the timing of the Equinox. Additionally, there will be extended evening light from the Moon as it rises around the same time for several nights.

Usually, the Harvest Moon occurs in September. However, every few years or so, it falls in October. The last time the Harvest Moon occurred in October was in 2020.

According to NASA, throughout October there will be some planets and two major meteor showers to look out for in the sky along with the first Supermoon of the year.

These planets and meteor showers include:

  • Venus — shining brightly throughout the month, visible in the constellation Virgo.

This bright planet will rise in the early morning in the eastern part of the sky during the start of October. As the month progresses there will be a smaller window of time to view the planet due to the Sun rising closer to the time that Venus rises. The best time to see it is around October 19th when a thin, waning crescent moon is nearby.

  • Saturn — an prominent presence visible in the sky nearly all this October.

During the early parts of the month, as the Sun sets, this ringed planet will appear near the Eastern horizon and set a little south of west before 6 a.m. Later in the month, Saturn will appear high in the East-Southeastern part of the sky at sunset then set around 4 a.m.

  • Draconid meteor shower — originating near the head of the constellation Draco the dragon in the Northern Sky.

This meteor shower will peak on October 8, 2025. It can produce up to 10 meteors per hour. If you're lucky enough to find some dark sky between October 6th and 10th, you may be able to witness these meteors.

  • Orionid meteor shower — occurring when Earth travels through the debris trailing behind Halley's Comet.

The Orionid meteor shower's full duration is from September 26 - November 22, with its peak happening this month on October 21, 2025. It is best to see these meteors before midnight until around 2 am. The meteor shower about 12 to 20 meteors per hour across the night sky.

Significance & Influences of the 2025 Harvest/Hunter Moon

The Full Harvest/Hunter Moon in Aries occurs annually during Libra season. The Full Moon in Aries, opposite the Sun in Libra, creates a dynamic between initiative and balance.

Overall, as cardinal signs, Aries and Libra encourages action. The Aries-Libra polarity will be bringing us themes of courage, personal fire, and clarity in relationships through honest communication and a review of the balance in one-on-one connections.
As the first of the signs in the zodiac wheel, Aries lead life with a level of assertiveness, courage, passion, and sometimes impulsivity just like a ram. Ruled by the planet Mars, Aries carry strong sense of purpose that drives their energy, actions, and desires.
Libra the sign of the scales is associated with diplomacy, justice, harmony, relationships, and aesthetics. The air sign, with its ruling planet being Venus, reminds us that we are social beings that require balance and beauty.

Behind the Moon's Name:

The Full Moon in October known as the Hunter Moon gets its name for the extra illumination offered during the hunting season right before winter. Bright lunar light helps hunters to track and gather game in preparation for winter. However, the abundance of moonlight during the early evening hours also helps farmers harvest their crops. Hence, the additional name of the Harvest Moon based on the timing of the year's seasonal change into autumn.

The October Full Moon is also known to Native Tribes across the Americas by the following names...

  • Falling Leaves Moon, Binaakwe-giizis Anishinaabemowin (Ojibwe)
  • Harvest Moon (gather), Atkuwa Nuti (aht-koo-wah noong-tee)Catawba Language, Catawba Indian Nation, South Carolina
  • Harvest Month, duninvdi Cherokee, Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, North Carolina
  • Hunting Moon, Paʔpeepmãat Neepãʔuk — Mahican Dialect, Stockbridge-Munsee Band of Wisconsin
  • Someone Stores Food, Yutekhway^he — Oneida
  • Hunting Moon, Tahch’awɛra — Tunica, Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana
  • Gä́nohdo’k’ah Seneca
During this lunar month, expect personal and collective shadows to surface due to the astrological influences that will be occurring.
The first significant influence to note comes from Mercury entering Scorpio the same day of the Full Moon. This planet of communication will square the Moon in Aries and Pluto in Aquarius offering an opportunity to transform our mindset and perception of reality.

As Mercury moves into the water sign of Scorpio, we are invited to deepen our inquiry and understanding of human nature, psychology, and emotions. This transit challenges us to uncover the emotional undercurrents of everyday situations and face any difficult subjects that may be in our lives or relationships.

Be aware that Mercury in Scorpio adds a level of intensity to necessary conversations, meaning it is important to listen for the hidden truths said in the spaces and silence between words.
On October 13th, Pluto stations Direct in Aquarius after being in retrograde since the month of May. This phase shift for Pluto, pushes us into new beginnings that require application of what was learned in it's previous phase.

Generally, Pluto's retrograde period offers a powerful time for shadow work, introspection, and personal transformation at the inner level. With the planet now in direct alignment, we are invited to integrate the lessons learned from facing the darker or more complex dimensions of life. Pluto's energy helps us intentionally restructure our lives so that our external reality reflects our internal transformations.

Other major energetic influences this lunar month come from Venus entering Libra on October 13, Venus’s trine to Pluto on October 14, and the New Moon in Libra a few days later on October 21.

As Venus finds itself empowered and at home in the air sign of Libra, we are reminded of the values of harmony, collaboration, and connection. While Venus is in Libra, we have an opportunity to look at the nuances of relational dynamics. The trine offers an opportunity for emotional and relational breakthroughs, potentially helping us to see where we are avoiding conflict to keep the peace.

This period is an ideal time to refine our capacity to discern between authentic and inauthentic peace so that we can bring true harmony within ourselves and our relationships.
With the New Moon in Libra on October 21st, comes the close of the energetic portal from last month's eclipse season. This New Moon will square both Jupiter in Cancer and Pluto in Aquarius while opposing Chiron in Aries.

A New Moon in Libra focuses our attention on relationship dynamics and unhealed emotional wounds. The planetary configurations with the New Moon push us to explore new ways of relating and what it means to be in relation with another.

In particular, Pluto and Jupiter's influences remind us to give generously from an overflowing cup. The opposition with Chiron in Aries reminds us that we don't always have to try to prove ourselves. We are worthy of existing, taking up space, and being connected to others in healthy, reciprocal ways, just as the sign of the Scales encourages us to keep in mind.

🤍
Ultimately, the Full Harvest/Hunter Moon reminds us to build the confidence to surrender to knowing who we truly are at the core of our being so that we can fully relate to others in a way that honors to the cycles of release and renewal we all go through.

The Sacred Beauty in Letting Go

Just as the trees gracefully shed their leaves each autumn in a spectacular display of surrender and trust in their renewal come spring, we can tap into the transformative power of release available this lunar month.

It is in our desperatethough often unconsciousgrip on something, someone, situation, or sensation, that we find ourselves dragging our spirits down into the shadows and suffocating on the undercurrents of why we hold on.

Letting go requires bringing light to those shadows.

Remember, without the dark the light would not be so bright. Consider the value of what one can learn from the shadowy aspects of life and one's being.
As the Full Moon in Aries illuminates the sky this month, we are especially invited to confront what needs to be addressed in our lives with courage and authenticity.

However, coming to terms with the fact that something must be released can be an uncomfortable task, as it requires taking a long, hard look in the mirror.

🪞
Whether that task be literal or metaphorical, such as through our habits, personality, and relationships, the goal is to witness, understand, and empathize with all versions of ourself, others, and our lineage across time and space.

What lies heavy on the heart, mind, body, and spirit can lead to visceral sensory experiences. Such sensations may include a tightness in the muscles, an unsettled gut, an oppressive feeling on the chest, and a racing or anxious mind.

Pay attention to when these sensory experiences show up for you and take time to tune into why they are occurring.

Strength in Surrender and Vulnerability

As we move through this lunar month, remember that the healing work we do today blesses the generations behind and before us.

In the vulnerable and courageous act of healing our trauma, we are surrendering up our fears and perceived weaknesses to create sacred space for nuanced understanding and genuine repair.

The decision to heal allows us to witness in our lives and relationships the inevitable breakdowns, endings, and deaths that form the very fabric of creation. Such transitions illustrate how surrender and vulnerability are powerful portals to the expansive void of the unknown, where the magic of transformation flows.

Learn to stand confidently in the fluidity of the in-between. Choosing to take on the task of healing may feel slow and unproductive at times, which can then further activate our insecurities and fears.

Understanding Barriers to Release

Unfortunately, there is a common perception that surrendering and being vulnerable are signs of weakness, making them not highly valued or encouraged. Oftentimes, as a result of this devaluation, we tend to shut down, suppress feelings, and invalidate emotions in an attempt to "fix" or "hide" the issue at hand.

Moreover, inequitable privileges and barriers created by systemic violence, cultural conditioning, and ancestral trauma impact many people's ability to surrender, find courage, and embrace vulnerability.

In particular, capitalist and colonial mindsets often encourage us to engage in inequitable, non-reciprocal giving and receiving of vital life force, which includes our time, energy, and wealth.
Beyond the conventional definitions of wealth we have been conditioned to know, consider what other dimensions of wealth you have and those you wish to grow.
With the Full Moon in Aries this Libra season, we are asked to keep our fire lit and not burn out by being overly generous. Remember, reestablishing balance through healthy forms of release will surely renew the fiery passions within.

As the Full Harvest/Hunter Supermoon lights up the sky this October, reminding us that all things go through natural cycles, may we feel safe to allow things to fade away when their cycle is complete. May we all release what is taking space in the energy fields of our mind, heart, body, and spirit. In this freeing up of space, may we allow our passions to reignite the power that helps us progress along our healing journey and realize our dreams.

With love,

mgmc
