Hello all, and happy winter solstice! Today, we want to acknowledge our responsibility to be in tune with Mother Earth's cycles and lean into being responsive to our need for rest and renewal.

Something that I have been recognizing in myself these days is a slowing down — a slowing down of thought, action, and growth. In such turbulent times, moments of stillness have been my comfort.

Yet, reflecting on the realities of dormant life in winter landscapes, I know that necessary movement and change are always happening beneath the frozen surface.

With that said, INDIGENEXUS is undergoing a major transformation this winter.

You may have noticed that all our previously published posts here have been put to rest. (But don’t worry, they aren’t gone forever!)

Why? What happened?

While we haven’t been direct witness to the virulently hateful and exploitative side of Substack, it is impossible to un-know it now that it has been brought to our attention.

See the commentary from Platformer and from ismatu below!
Why Platformer is leaving Substack
After much consideration, we have decided to move Platformer off of Substack. Over the next few days, the publication will migrate to a new website powered by the nonprofit, open-source publishing platform Ghost. If you already subscribe to Platformer
Substack has a N*gger Problem.
Content warning: this essay contains screenshots of Substack users openly utilizing the n-word as a white supremacist pejorative. I will be saying/writing the word as they’ve written it (I am Black). If that is going to ruin your day, scroll away! <3

Unfortunately, all platforms can host problematic and harmful material. However, we have more agency than we may think to hold platforms accountable through our attention and, of course, how we choose to be in relation.

Expectedly, there are just too many misalignments with the Substack platform to continue on here, especially considering its growth trajectory.

After carefully considering how to honor our work and the space we hope to cultivate with INDIGENEXUS, we are moving to our own website as an independent publication.

All previous posts have been uploaded to our new website, so feel free to check those out, as well as some new ones!

If you already subscribed to INDIGENEXUS through Substack, no worries — you will be automatically added to our website’s newsletter as a free member.

Please consider upgrading your free membership with our new tiered subscription options to access exclusive content!

Thank you all for your support with this transition.

With love and gratitude,
